The
Republic of South Africa, bordered to East and West by two oceans, occupies a
predominant place in Southern Africa. Sharing land frontiers with Namibia,
Botswana, Zimbabwe and Swaziland and surrounding landlocked Lesotho, this
country of 1,127,000 km2 recorded GDP of 130 billion dollars and economic
growth of nearly 4% in 2001. With 9 airports and 6 international ports, the
Republic of South Africa is asserting its intention to give priority to
developing new logistics platforms turned towards the outside world.
The PWV: the major conurbation in which more than half the country's industry
is concentrated comprises the cities of Johannesburg, Durban and
Capetown. Johannesburg, the world's thirteenth-largest financial centre and the
economic capital of the country, has established as a prime location for business
since 1997. In 2001, we chose Durban as the location for our second office. A
dynamic city with a modern international airport and the country's largest port,
Durban is also a gateway to the Rand industrial and mining region. To complete
our 360° provision, 2 SDV staff members are posted in Capetown and Port
Elisabeth.
