The 12 labors of SDV in Vietnam
For more than one year, our Vietnamese teams have been taking part in a titanic project. They are in fact in charge of the whole transport and logistics of the Dung Quat project: the construction of a state-of-the-art petrol refinery; first of its kind in Vietnam.
The challenge for Vietnam is to become self-sufficient in terms of refining, since today the consumed fuels are 100 % imported.
To take up this challenge, our teams have set new weight, size and quantity records, like the one of the biggest piece ever transported in Vietnam (85 meters long). Added to this, our teams have had to face structural engineering missions like the construction of a bypass, the burial of middle-voltage electric cables, and the reinforcement of little bridges. These missions were not made easier by the climate of central Vietnam, which is not spared by typhoons during the rainy season.

Focus on the Dung Quat refinery project:
- Opening of our premise in Quang Ngai.
- A multicultural team: 25 people from Vietnam, Japan, France, Great Britain, Germany, Malaysia and New Zealand totally dedicated to this project locally.
- Organization of the sea transportation from various origins (by containers vessels, breakbulk and/or heavy lifts ships), of the receiving at Dung Quat Port and the deliveries of 480,000 freight tons of general cargo, parcels type HLO* and SHLO**.
- Logistics and transportation by air: reception and delivery of more than 300 tons of freight.
- Coordination of the engineering of the exceptional route transportation (HLO and SHLO) thanks to Self-propelled Modular Trailers*** and Cometto**** means for: 123 pieces between 20 and 100 tons transported by sea and 39 pieces between 100 and 700 tons.
- A privilege of “pre-clearance” was set up so as to receive general cargo and heavy parcels in the best conditions to avoid the immobilisation of vessels.
- The customs brokerage is done in 48 hours maximum and deliveries in 72 hours.
- The creation of an intermediate storage zone of 20,000m2.
- 480,000 freight tons handled from August 2006 to June 2008 with a peak of heavy parcels in July and August of 100,000 freight tons.
This project will go on until June 2008, date of the refinery’s delivery. This great scope challenge leads our teams to show their professionalism to our customer’s satisfaction.
