Eurocopter expands its efforts to help the disaster victims by dispatching one of its Puma to South East Asia (02/05)
As part of the concerted action of solidarity launched by EADS, Eurocopter decided to dispatch one of its Puma helicopters to South East Asia, where it will be placed at the disposal of the disaster-struck countries.
No sooner had the decision been taken on Friday evening than the DERH teams led by Jean-Marie Trabucco set to work. During the weekend, several dozen people took turns at preparing and organizing the departure of the helicopter.
Help was also forthcoming from SDV International Logistics and the GSAC Certifying Authorities, whose contributions were crucial.
SDV International Logistics offered its services free of charge in its field of activity, and participated in the preparation of the helicopter for shipment to Toulouse, by chartering an extendible low-bed trailer and a Tautliner.
Just 24 hours later, the SA 330 J Puma S/N 1301 had been disassembled and shipped overnight to Toulouse. On Wednesday, the Puma will be loaded on to the Beluga transport aircraft, together with provisions for the Red Cross.
Eurocopter Malaysia will reassemble and return the helicopter to flight status, with assistance from Eurocopter pilots and technicians sent out to the region.
Currently holding a simple "permit" authorizing the Eurocopter crews to fly it, the Puma may shortly receive - with the help of GSAC - an Export Certificate of Airworthiness allowing other crews to operate it.

This new card with an embedded microchip and digital ID, invented in Malaysia, gives its holder a head start over other travellers, who will have to wait in line endlessly using the good old method of the paper passport.
