The Industrial Project Department of the °SDV International Logistics Group have just once again carried out an unusual project.
Teams from °SDV International Logistics – “Industrial Project” Department – organised the delivery of 2 reactors (of which on weighs 600 tons and is 40 metres long) for an oil refinery near Montreal and depended upon the °SDV Canada’s experience and expertise. In accordance with international agreements, these reactors will be used to reduce the sulphur content in fuel oils, thus fighting against the greenhouse effect.
Through their expertise, the teams from the °SDV International Logistics network transported these elements over the 15 000 km separating the manufacturing site in India (in the middle of a particularly heavy monsoon season) and the Pétro-Canada refinery.
One transport in three stages and one deployment of means on the project’s scale
- From the manufacturing plant to the port of embarkation, the parts were loaded on powerful hydraulic trailers.
- For the maritime transport between India and Canada, SDV International Logistics chartered a special “heavy parcel” ship equipped with 2 heavy lift derricks each of 500 tons each.
- For the final land transport to the refinery which was carried out as soon as the ship arrived, two SPMT trailers, which totalled 18 lines 4 files (having 288 wheels), had to be used.
Safety to meet the project
After a journey of more than 15 000 km and escorted at night by large teams of police on Canadian soil, the reactors were delivered, under the °SDV International Logistics team’s constant supervision, to the refinery at the end of August.
Throughout the Canadian industrialists and transporters’ memory, heavier parcels have never been seen transported in the whole of the province of Quebec. |
